New Build
We arrive on the scene once the plumbing and electrical have been run through the house and the drywall work has been completed. All the mudding of the walls and sanding has been done by the drywallers. They have also completed any texturing of ceilings.
INSTALLATION
At this point no other installations have been put into the house, such as flooring, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, toilets, trim work, electrical receptacles, light switch and outlet covers or lighting fixtures or closet shelving. This gives us the ability to spray paint without having to worry about getting it on anything. If there are any smooth (non-textured) ceilings we work on those first. We spray on a primer, back roll it and when its dry do an overall sanding of the ceiling. Then two coats of ceiling paint are sprayed and back rolled. The appropriate amount of drying time is left between each coat. The spraying and back rolling of the ceilings requires two people working together.
AFTER PRIMER IS SANDED
After the primer has been sanded we can apply the first coat of the finish colour. Cut ins are done next to the ceiling line and any other necessary areas. Then we spray and back roll the first coat of the paint. Some painters will attempt to tint the primer close to the finished colour and then apply only one coat of paint as the finish coat. This is not the correct method. There should be a coat of primer and two coats of paint to provide a proper finish and full paint coverage over the new drywall.
FINISHING COLOR
In a few areas we may choose to apply the second (final coat) of finish colour. This would be on select walls where the kitchen cabinets will be placed or on bathroom walls where the vanities and toilets will go. This makes it easier when doing the final painting of these rooms. We don’t have to worry about cutting in around the cabinets and fussing with paint behind the toilets. A few touch ups may be necessary on the finished walls after the installations have been made to fix up incidental damage.
INSPECTION BEFORE FINISHING
We continually inspect our work throughout the entire process, but we do a final inspection and fix or touch up any issues before considering our painting job complete.
